'Near Threatened' Animal Okapi
Description : 
Okapi is the only living relative of the giraffe. It slightly resembles zebra because of the stripes. It has long skull, large black eyes and very long, purplish tongue, just like giraffe. It has dark purple or reddish brown velvety fur, with white horizontal stripes on their front and hind legs.

Habitat : 
This beautiful animal lives in the northern, central and eastern parts of the Congo (Africa). Okapi prefers dense and damp vegetation, so it inhabits rainforests.

Food : 
Okapi is a herbivore and eats leaves, buds, fruits, grasses, ferns and twigs. It swallows and reiterates its food for additional chewing several times, just like a cow.

Life Span :
Average lifespan of the okapi is between 20 and 30 years. 

Important Note :
Intensive deforestation has reduced the number of Okapis significantly. At the moment they are listed as "near threatened", which means that they could easily become endangered in the near future.
